Smoking is injurious to health. There are various disadvantages of smoking. Beside the impact of the smoking on the health of a person, it also has an adverse effect on your social life and on your wallet. It can lead to various diseases and illnesses. According to the studies, smoking alone is responsible for taking approx 350,000 lives every year in U.S. alone. Nicotine in cigarettes not only affects your health but also the health of the people around you. According to researchers smokers have more chances of getting heart attack and lung cancer then the non smokers.

Disadvantages of Smoking People, who are smoking from a very long time, have higher risk of developing different disease, and it can affect their health adversely. The smokes you inhale contain various harmful substances such as tar, carbon monoxide, heavy metals etc. These substances affect your body in different ways. If you are a smoker, this habit of your can adversely affect your skin, mouth, heart, respiratory system, reproductive system etc very badly.

Effect of smoking on parts of body

  • Skin: Due to excessive smoking, skin loses its luster and plumpness. The main reason for which is the poor blood circulation and the loss of oxygen from the skin
  • Mouth: Common effects of smoking are the less sense of taste, stained teeth, plaque, bad breath and the moth cancer.
  • Hands: Will always remain cold, due to the poor circulation of the blood.
  • Respiratory System: Smoking affects this system badly; it can lead to the lung cancer, importunate cough, sputum and shortness of breath.
  • Heart: Constant smoking can weaken and block the arteries of the heart; this constricts the blood flow, thus leading to the heart attack.
  • Bones: It can lead to the hip fracture, degenerative disc, and osteoporosis.
  • Other Organs: Smoking has harmful effect on the different organs of the body, such as kidney, oesophagus, kidney, and abdomen. Apart from that it can lead to the blood disease and recovery of the wounds.

Smoking is very injurious for the pregnant women. If pregnant mother is a continuous smoker then it can affect the growth of child in the womb. Other disadvantages of smoking for pregnant women are:

  • still birth
  • deformed body parts

Beside these, there are economic and social disadvantages of smoking also. Everyday rate of cigarette is going up, and if you calculate the total amount of money you are spending on these in a month or a year, you will find a significant amount is going from your pocket for this. Smoking also makes you socially unacceptable, it leads to the bad breath and it also leaves an odor in your clothes. Though for many smoking is the sign of masculinity or is a way to look cool. But what I can say is, next time when you light your cigarette, do think of the disadvantages of smoking and then take your decision.
